MY APPROACH TO THERAPY

David M. Stroup, Ph.D.

David M. Stroup, Ph.D.

My work focuses on the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of individual challenges and relationship systems.  I enjoy working with adults, children/adolescents, couples, and families.  I am especially skilled in the field of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (AD/HD) and and have been awarded a Certificate of Advanced Training in AD/HD.

I frequently provide treatment for a broad range of problems including Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (AD/HD), Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), and Executive Function Disorder (EFD).  Other mental health issues often treated are Depression, Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), unresolved trauma, grief and loss, as well as Concentration Deficit Disorder (CDD) which is also known as Sluggish Cognitive Tempo (SCT).  Common issues motivating therapy include family conflict, poor academic or work performance, behavioral problems at school, life transitions, addiction issues, and other behavioral and emotional difficulties.

My approach to therapy is an integrative one, weaving together evidence based theory and research, with a focus on empathic and authentic human connection. I incorporate a strength-based positive psychology approach in which treatment is tailored to the needs and goals of each individual.  I draw from multiple modalities including family systems, cognitive-behavioral, and psychodynamic methods.  Trained as a culturally competent therapist, I am mindful and sensitive to diversity factors relevant to treatment.  I believe I practice with integrity, respect, and humor.
